Information: Its primary goal was to provide legal assistance to the poor in the Pittsburgh area. NLSA's service area covers Allegheny, Bea-ver, Butler, and Lawrence counties. Provides legal information in a variety of areas: bankruptcy and other consumer debt and credit issues, disability, elderly assistance (healthcare, power of attorney, guardianship), health care and benefits issues, public benefits (welfare, social security, energy assistance), children and family services, education and student rights, employment/unemployment issues (wages, discrimination), housing and shelter, migrant issues (wages, hours, fair labor), and veteran issues (benefits, employment, housing). If you need legal help regarding criminal matters and are unable to pay a private attorney, contact the Public Defender's Office serving your county. NLSA cannot handle criminal matters.
